Puerto Vallarta Snorkelling

See what Puerto Vallarta Snorkeling is all About

People come from near and far to enjoy snorkeling in Puerto Vallarta's rich, warm water that teems with sea life. The offshore islands and beaches are surrounded by clear water that offers great visibility of a variety of marine life enhancing the Puerto Vallarta snorkelling experience. From octopi and lobsters hiding in the coral encrusted rock, to damsels, parrotfish and puffer fish, you will get to observe them all in their natural habitat. Schools of tropical fish, angel fish, moray eels, starfish, spotted eagle rays, seahorses and giant manta rays populate the waters. You're bound to run into sea turtles or soaring eagle rays, and if you're very lucky, you may get up close and personal with a pod of dolphins. There's also a slight possibility of encountering a humpback whale and hear their underwater songs.

Best Places to Snorkel in Puerto Vallarta

Marietas Island is a marine preserve and protected wildlife sanctuary which is home to the Blue-Footed Booby, a rare bird species. Jacques Cousteau first made the area a famous snorkeling spot.

Majahuita Coves, south of Puerto Vallarta, encompasses the area south of Banderas Bay at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains. It offers a beautifully protected habitat for tropical fish and other marine life, making it the ideal snorkeling location.

Playa Los Colomitos offers the opportunity to snorkel in a hidden bay, as it is one of the most secluded beaches in Puerto Vallarta.

Las Caletas offers the unique opportunity of snorkeling with sea lions. Located on Banderas Bay, the area offers calm waters.

Los Arcos is another protected marine park, which is located in Banderas Bay, near Mismaloya. It is the most popular snorkeling spot in Puerto Vallarta and offers awesome underwater tunnels and three huge rocks, encrusted with wildlife.

You can snorkel all year round, as the pacific waters stay warm all year round. However, we recommend that you come between June and December, when the temperature is up to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the visibility is up to 100 ft.
